Behind the Scenes

Building the Little Village

If you’ve met Lucy the Goose—our beloved, brainy mascot—you know she’s always flying toward something meaningful. She’s silly, adventurous, studious, and hopeful. In many ways, she embodies everything I’m dreaming of as I build Little Village Learning Center LLC: an online haven for families and tutors to connect in California’s Central Valley.

This blog post is a little peek behind the scenes of that dream.

Why We’re Building the Little Village

The heart of the Little Village is simple: we believe learning should be personal, joyful, and powerful. But too often, families feel overwhelmed trying to find the right support for their kids. Tutors, on the other hand, can spend just as much time marketing themselves as they do actually teaching. That’s where we come in.

We’re creating a 24-hour online directory where families can find and connect with qualified, passionate tutors at any time. It’s a space where tutors can grow their businesses, and where families can access help and inspiration when they need it most—not just when the school calendar says it’s time.

What It Means for Tutors

Being part of the Little Village directory can be a game-changer for a tutor’s career. We handle the behind-the-scenes marketing, online presence, and client management tools, so tutors can focus on what they do best: teaching. That means more time lesson planning, more time connecting with students, and more time doing real, meaningful work in the community.

But it’s more than just automation. The Village is designed to foster real professional connection. Tutors will be part of a vibrant local network where they can share resources, discuss student needs, and collaborate to raise the bar for education across the Central Valley. It’s a space where educators inspire each other and become better, together.

They’ll also get the chance to speak directly to families, helping them understand not just what their child needs, but why. They can help unlock deeper, richer educational experiences—ones that go far beyond test prep or worksheets.

What It Means for Families

We’re designing a space where parents can explore, learn, and book tutoring support at any time of day. Whether it’s 2 PM or 2 AM, the Village is open.

But we want to offer more than just convenience. We want to open up the gates to what learning really looks like from the inside out. This directory will showcase real teaching, real values, and real learning opportunities—ones that light a fire in kids and help them become confident learners for life.

Families will be able to browse the directory, read tutor profiles, explore learning experiences, and make appointments with people who truly “get” their kids. They’ll get a chance to find the right fit—not just someone with credentials, but someone who connects, inspires, and understands.

The Bigger Dream

At the end of the day, Little Village is about connection. It’s about putting families and educators on the same team. It’s about making high-quality education feel possible, accessible, and local.

I dream of a Central Valley where talented tutors don’t feel like they have to leave to find opportunity. Where families don’t have to jump through hoops to get help for their kids. Where learning feels less like a system and more like a journey we take together.

We’re still building, still refining, and still learning as we go. But Lucy and I are on our way—and we can’t wait to show you what’s ahead.

Thanks for being here.

With love from the Village,
Margaret
